Cancer Registry Community Cancer Care provides cancer registry services for 18 of our partner hospitals. Through this program we are able to gather comprehensive information about all cancer types diagnosed and treated in these hospitals and track all cancer cases until death. Collecting this information enables us to analyze and compare geographic, ethnic, occupational, and other trends that may help identify risk factors both in the local communities and throughout Indiana. It also helps to outline where public education programs and early detection programs need to be implemented. Our database includes information on demographics, cancer type, stage of disease at diagnosis, treatment, and survival. Community Cancer Care also participates in the Rocky Mountain Cancer Data System - the largest private cancer registry in the country as well as the National Cancer Database. The "Adjusted Survivals" (the gold standard for program comparator) for our mostly rural and under-served Indiana hospitals are as good or better than the national database. This data can enable patients the assurance of quality of care at their local hospital. Our program encourages American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (COC) program accreditation. The COC of the ACoS is a national scientific and educational association founded to improve quality of patient care by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. Of the 120 hospitals in Indiana, a total of 35 have Commission on Cancer accredited cancer programs. Eleven of those 35 approved programs are our partner hospitals in cancer care. Community Cancer Care assisted all 11 of these programs to achieve the status of an accredited program with the Commission on Cancer.
